DPD-Deoxypyridinoline (Pyrilinks D) Urine
DPD (Deoxypyridinoline) Crosslinks, Urine Price
Deoxypyridinoline forms the cross links which provides the structural stiffness to the collagen in the bones. It thus has an important role in bone formation and re-absorption. The levels are found to be affected in certain conditions affecting the bone re-absorption rates.
The bone is undergoing constant remodeling, which includes resorption and repair. Deoxypyridinoline forms the cross-links that give collagen in the bones structural stiffness. As a result, it plays an important role in bone formation and resorption. In some cases, the resorption rate is higher than the regeneration rate, causing bone loss.
Deoxypyridinoline is produced during bone formation. These are released into the bloodstream during bone resorption and excreted through the urine. Deoxypyridinoline (DPD) levels are measured using a urine sample.
People with the following symptoms should do the deoxypyridinoline test:
- Back pain
- Loss of height
- bones that fracture much easier than expected
- Receding gums with weak supporting bones and teeth
- Pain and stiffness throughout the body
- Tiredness and fatigue
- Sleep issues
- Hand and foot tingling or numbness
- In general, weakness
How is this test done?
- A urine sample is required for testing deoxypyridinoline (DPD) levels.
- The first urine sample of the morning is preferred.
- You can collect the sample either at home or in the laboratory.
- Around 10 ml of spot urine sample is collected in a clean, dark, dry, leak-proof container, without preservative or antiseptic.
- It is recommended that you do not fill the container for ease of testing.
- The sample is then labeled and sent to the laboratory for testing.
