• A Double Marker Test is a type of test that in mainly given to pregnant women to determine any chromosomal malformation in the foetus

 This test is important for all pregnant women. This test helps determine:

• If the unborn baby is at risk for any mental disorder
• If the unborn child has Down syndrome
• If the unborn child is at risk of Trisomy 18, that results in mental retardation and severe birth defects
• If the unborn child is at risk of Trisomy 21.T, which cause mental disorders, heart disorders and other health conditions affecting vital organs

A Double Marker Test is predominantly given to pregnant women to determine any chromosomal deformity in the foetus. This test also plays a critical role in the detection of any kind of neurological conditions such as down syndrome or Edward’s Syndrome. Chromosomal abnormalities can result in serious developmental faults and lead to various health problems in the child post birth, but such abnormalities are very rare. The Double Marker Test is given to pregnant women above 35 years of age and those who have a family history of birth defects and type 1 diabetes.
